garden happenings

ive been spending lots of evenings in the garden lately.

my favourite recent project is a new home for my chookies. ive been finding for quite some time that because they were all the way on the back block with the ducks who are very messy, i wasnt spending much time with them.

ive built them a new area behind our little shed and around some plants. its a much nicer size, enough room to run around but not so much that theyre impossible to catch.

the fence is star droppers and chook wire cable tied. i made gates out of old play pen sides, covered with chook wire, hinged with cable ties

its a perfect area to enjoy them, right next to the grass and washing line. i find that now i find a reason to visit them nearly every time i go outside.

they have a big rosemary bush which is their absolute favourite to sit under. Its bennys favourite too, but moreso because he loves when i put the yummy leaves on lamb and roast veggies lol:)
most of these guys are new (the two white ones are the chicks right down the bottom of the linked-to post) incase you cant read the names, coco (black and white) marley (orange) little dude (fluffy white) and talula (flat feathered white)
little dude is my absolute favourite. she is more than happy to be pat and picked up, and loves to lay on my knee and preen herself

the three black girls (well hopefully the chicks are girls) are henrietta and her chicks jane and lissie
oh, and after just a few days in their new home i discovered 2 eggs (i hadnt had fresh eggs for a LONG time) ill take that as them sayin they love their new home!

our passion fruit vine has realy taken off lately. (yes, thats more play pen at the top for it to grow on next) i also made stars out of sticks to spin in the breeze

after visiting lil and madi and seing their beautiful lush bean plants climbing up their back fence, i was motivated to try my own. im not sure if im too late in the season but having a go and hoping for the best.

just because their looking beautiful, heres a strawberry plant in my old collinder and basil i grew from seeds a while back

visiting

i had a fantastic weekend.

friday me and benny stayed at lil, madi and dales place. we got yummy pizza and pasta for tea, and then went to cold rock icecreamery for desert. and then died of fullness while watching awesome season dvds.

saturday morning we went opp shopping with madi and i bought my new favourite top for $6. nothing wrong with that!

saturday night we went to emily and louies birthday. it was so incredibly nice sitting in their garden, nibbling on fruit and checking out davids latest gardening projects. it utterly amazes me the he has made such an awesome garden pretty much entirely from recycled things that have been given to him. every time i visit there is something new and cool. this time they have a fish pond made of an old bath and a realy great chichen coop waiting on a bit more recycled wood

lil me and aj

saturday night we stayed at anneke and kanes place.
in the morning we went to markets and then went shopping. i had a $50 spotlight gift card that bennys parents gave me for christmas and i certainly got their moneys worth. i found a quilt cover for $20 and after i bought it realised that not only was it marked down from $90, it had actually scanned through at $14. not bad value if you ask me!
that arvo we went for a swim at their beautiful beach. the water was absolutely perfect and as always we had loads of fun jumping through waves

and this is just a random photo from a while ago because i was editing it and realy love it
