10ish months to go

today I tidied the day care sleep room and took some pictures to share. In about 10 months we'll be moving (yay!!) so its nice to have a record of how things are at this little house of ours
The funny thing is, we've lived in this house for about the past 2 years (i think??) and I've been just thinking recently that it feels like I've gotten it to the proper lived in,reflecting us, coziness if you know what I mean. I really like this little place but aside from wishing it was a little bigger, it's unfortunately not in the right town either
It has a bit to do with all the pot plants. I've for a long time had a few but recently iv'e been growing extra from cuttings, splitting ferns and re-potting plants that had grown baby plants around them. Its a good way to get my gardening fix when its stinking hot out. They really help the place look homely and cozy. I particularly love the tea pot plant

The little girls play with the dolls a lot so I set up an extra little doll corner in the sleep room
The sleep room is a good spot for little ones to retreat to when they need some quiet. I put the rocking horse on the sheep skin to make sure it didn't scratch the floor but it also makes it rock quietly and gently which is nice.

This room gets such nice filtered light from the big window
By the window is hung our garden mobile. The green thing is a watering can which I should have turned around. It looks a bit funny because like usual I didn't use a pattern but I like it

The foot stall from my rocking chair is in here, I sit on it as I tell stories or sing the little people to sleep

ps. I've got another little Apple Blossom girlie for Thursday. I have my hands full of little girls, two 18 mo olds, an almost 2 year old and a 2.5 year old! Oh and I've decided that we need to get back to eating outside. I may or may not have decided it while sweeping up four babies worth of food last Thurs:) I think we'll put the chickens on clean up duty this week!

ppps- I officially have 3 children for day care when we move. Maddison and Georgia's mum has said she will be bringing them all the way over so they can still come! She was telling me how people around the town have been talking about how disappointing it is that I will be moving away because i'm so good with the kids. Um.. flattered is an understatement. I can be so hard on myself thinking i'm not doing well enough so its ridiculous how much comments like this fill my heart

Karen, what did you do to me?
I will also have my little buddy Jayden which i'm so excited about!
Ahh, thats better

  1. What a lovely space!
Do you sit with the children untill they sleep?
I use 2 rooms (5 beds in total) and sometimes the children think it's so cosy and pleasant they keep on playing and singing together...
When i sit down and breathe deeply, I noticed they sleep much faster.
I wonder how they do it at huge daycarecentres where all the children sleep together

    1. thanks Yvonne!
Id been wondering if your day care had begun, Id love to hear more about how its going and what you and the children do together etc.
Depending on which children are in care I quite often sit with them until all are asleep, reading or singing. My words get slower and gentler in tone until its so lulling (booring!)that they eventually fall asleep. This can take quite a while when they are new and once they are used to it they go to sleep faster. When I get to the point that they are used to it I sometimes start sitting in the next room knitting and 'shhhh' when I hear talking. This way they have the comfort of knowing i'm still close and also know that I don't want them talking. Once they are used to this I go out to my lounge room and just check on them once or twice (these steps I take over weeks or months depending on the child.
I also tend to put babies that still cry out when they wake in separate rooms, they sleep in a portable cot in our spare room or my bedroom.
My friends mun works in the baby room at a center and they put the babies to bed one at a time, when one is asleep the next will get put down. I have no idea how they do it, I wonder how much sleep the last baby to get put to sleep would have as the first one would soon be waking. I've helped in a toddler room and that was a lot easier. They have two or three people patting backs and stroking hair, gentle music playing and stay until each child is asleep. It was a lovely thing watching all the toddlers fall asleep on their little mats:)
If you have any other questions that come up in your daycare id be happy to brainstorm with you xx

  2. Your space is enchanting! I keep wavering with the thought of doing an inhome (Lifeways/Waldorf) inspired daycare, I'm not sure my space is ideal though but I will enjoy watching yours! Currently I host a Waldorf inspired Playgarden twice a week and am loving that!

    1. I've found that the past two houses I've been at haven't been ideal either (my other house was sooo tiny, we spent loads of time outdoors just to have space!) but I dare say you will manage to make it work if you want to. We've had to customize large child gates to divide rooms, put up fencing, and had a house with no garden to start of with, some hard work, compost and seeds fixed that. Don't be discouraged, i'm sure it can be done:)Id love to visit your blog but your profile is set to private.
