Its a busy and productive time in the garden at the moment. The peas are coming towards an end for the season but were picking the first big fat broad beans and surprisingly I've been getting some decent size potatoes from some plants that self seeded over winter. I've been busy getting lots of summer crops planted. Some tomatoes are in, the first beans have sprouted and many more will soon follow including kidney beans etc to dry and cook with. Today I put in cucumbers, zucchinis and pumpkins. I've saved watermelon seeds to plant with Cameron and Sam on Wednesday. Cameron and Sam are 5 and 4 and they are really getting into gardening. They mostly love to eat everything in site but they also plant and weed alongside me. While the little ones are napping you will find "us big people" in the veggie patch (because at the age of 5 and 6 you are apparently classed as big people, particularly seems as they have both recently had birthdays and stopped napping. Their feeling very grown up indeed)

The peas don't look so lush any more but their still being picked clean every day. The more heat we have the fatter the peas! But unfortunately the fewer also
The chooks adore lettuce and lucky for them there's lots of it self seeded from last years plants so we are able to share it with them. They are also pleased that we've been finding quite a few fat caterpillars on the broccoli plants. The broccoli plants are producing lots of delicious side shoots (or whatever you call the mini heads of broccoli after the main one has been removed) so its worth keeping them going for a bit longer. And to attract caterpillars for our chookie girls
Here is an overall view of one side of the patch
Ive put together this simple cubby structure from lattice left over from when Benny made the fence.
The apple blossom children helped me plant beans to climb up over it and some flowers to brighten our days. Each day we count the beans to see how many have sprouted so far
Here's today's veggies, broad beans, peas, spinach, two eggs and a lonely radish
